Gabba Gabba!

An Jojo - Drums
Askravat Verbinski - Noisemaker/Programming/Lead Vox
Daud Shah - Guitar
Indra - synthesizer
Was originally the brainchild of rythm guitarist Wanjah, bored and sick and tired of the routine droll and generic pop music on the radio, finally deciding to kick some radio butt. He quickly hooked up with Bau's main songwriter Ash in the hopes of making his songs sound as mean as they can.

Ash quickly thereafter sought the services of his rythm guitarist Daud, who in the space of Bau's long hiatus had become a seasoned sessionist in his own right, with Ash assigning him lead guitar duties this time round.

As time passed, the three started to brainstorm as to who would be most appropriate in filling the gap of rythm section. They finally settled on Wanjah's good buddy Bidin as their Bass player, and they also mutually agreed to seek services of Bau's drummer Ahn Jojo.

Months pass, and through mutual consent, Bidin relinquished his role as bass player, citing commitment issues as the main catalyst for him leaving. This left the remaining four in yet another dilemma of searching for a bassist. Daud originally had already aggresively campaigned for his good friend and bassist Pa' Ku, whom he had become acquainted with during his travels as a sessionist. Upon getting word of Bidin leaving, Daud immediately gave his old friend a call, and upon hearing the band's offer, Pa' Ku promptly agreed.

And so, after months of deliberation and planning, the band's lineup is finally complete. The concept of their music have evolved significantly since the band's formation, having at first planned to make the band a post-punk outfit, but over time the band decided in putting elements of synthesizers, giving out a more disco vibe to their music. Wanjah then dubbed Gabba Gabba! as a proto-punk outfit, with their namesake an homage to one of punk's pioneers and also one of their main influences, The Ramones.

Bliz

MembersMohaid Adib Rosli
Zahrin Zamzuri (Jakalll)
Saufi Ghafar (Opie)
Bliz is a Malay melodramatic rock trio consists of Mohaid Adib (Guitar and Vocal), Jakalll (Bass) and Opie ( Drums).
Bliz is actually taken from the word “bliss” that represent the beautifulness inside every dark songs bliz ever composed. The music they carries combine the classic melody of malay song with some modern riffing in order to capture the ears of this modern day youngsters plus for the elder to flashback the classic melody that has yet been forgotten these day.

Most of Bliz’s song is composed by Mohaid Adib who was also the lead singer of the band where he loved to wrote about love mostly in his “straight forward” lyrics. Jakalll, the bassist and also a cartoonist of MOY(Ujang magazine) loved to run around the note rather to stick to ordinary bass skills, while Opie, manipulate the drum beat so it would not be some ordinary beat.

Bliz highlight the best of these three talented musician where they all carries their role perfectly, whether from the riff of a guitar and bass, the beat of a drum, to the vocal, they all need to be something extra-ordinary.
While performing on stage, they believe that carrying their potential performing act to the limit is what enjoying music is all about.

Rosevelt

Jeffery Wong - Guitars
Since Rosevelt was formed June 2009, they have been living out the dream in the local music scene. This dream is simple: to blaze trails of their own among the footsteps of local indie music greats.

The spirit of Rosevelt is best summed up in their public debut at Indie Youth Fest 2009: indie, young, and in the serious business of a good rockin time.

Within the same year, they were honoured with a slot in Rock The World 2009 and it has been the ride of their lives ever since. Rosevelt has had the pleasure of playing live at various venues, such as The Library, Laundry Bar, and Urbanattic, as well as many events including Fly FM Campur Chart, Youth ‘10, and Urbanscapes 2010.

So what kind of rock music exactly do they play? Some say Hard Melodic Rock, some say Alternative Rock. They say the kind of rock that will have you headbanging till you get a massive whiplash the next day. That’s if you let yourself go.

Their single Madicine, which debuted in June 2010, made it to XFM Underground TOP 25, spent 8 weeks at the top of Cravecharts, peaked at No.4 on Traxx FM’s Upstage Chart and was Number 1 on Hitz FM’s MET 10 for 2 weeks in a row.

17th July 2011 saw Rosevelt announced as the opening act for Incubus live in KL on the 23rd of July. This was a historic moment for the band because if it weren’t for Incubus, Rosevelt wouldn’t have existed. Big fans of Incubus since forever, the band was quoted saying,

“Keep working towards your dreams, cause in our case it really did come true.”

Rosevelt will be releasing their debut album in December 2011 and it comes with a few exciting surprises.

Pop Shuvit

MembersMoots! : Vocals / Ringleader
Rudy : Drums /Caretaker/Handyman
AJ : Bass/Bookkeeper/Hunter
JD : Guitar/Vocals/OneManBand
Uno : Turntables/Keys/Beast
Pop Shuvit began making waves in the local music scene in late 2001. Comprising of Moots (vocals), JD (guitars), AJ (bass), Rudy (drums) and UNO (turntables), the band has had 4 successful releases under their belt and rocked fans throughout Asia notably in Japan, Thailand and Singapore. Known for their adrenaline packed live shows and eclectic blend of hip hop and rock, Pop Shuvit are being touted as Asia’s leading Hip Hop Rock band.

Their debut album ‘Take it & Shuvit’ broke new ground when their first single ‘Skaters’ Anthem’ was released exclusively on the Internet and became one of the most downloaded local songs in Malaysian music history. The hype and street buzz from the track caught the ears of ESPN, who in turn licensed the track for use in their Summer X-Games broadcast that hit millions of households worldwide. As further credit to Pop Shuvit, ESPN played their music videos and tracks off the album throughout the duration of competition.

In 2003, Pop Shuvit released “Take it & Shuvit” in Japan and became the first Malaysian band to hit the music chart in Japan. The overwhelming support from Japanese youth market ensured that all tracks of the album charted the top 20 on the Tower Records sales charts (even beating raprock luminaries like Linkin Park) without any promotion to back the album. The success of their releases in Japan led to Pop Shuvit touring the land of the rising sun in 2005 to support their sophomore release, ‘HERE & NOW’, leading to one of the most successful and talked about headlining tours for any Malaysian rock band. The album was a hard-hitting social commentary of urban culture and spurred hits like “Old Skool Rocka” and “Journey”, with the latter earning the band the 1 Song of the year on the Malaysian English Top Ten for 2005 and “Best Rock Act” at the inaugural Hitz.fm Malaysian English Top Ten Awards 2005.

Always one to go against the grain, the band released a dance remix album and a hip hop EP in 2004 and 2006 respectively. The remix of their track ‘Conversations’ from the “Shuvit Remixes” dance CD was hand picked by uber DJ Nick Warren for inclusion in pioneering UK dance music label Global Underground’s mix CD, Shanghai GU28 that peaked at 19 on the UK TOP 40 Dance Album Charts. The hip hop EP, a 4 track 12 inch vinyl release, featured collaborations with some of hip hop’s most respected emcees from around the globe including US emcees Big Pooh from Little Brother, L.E.G.A.C.Y, Cesar Comache, ZION from ZION I, Def Jam Japan’s DABO and Reggaeton duo Nitro Y Fanta from Puerto Rico.

Not resting on their laurels, Pop Shuvit’s eagerly anticipated third album, aptly titled “Amped & Dangerous” hit stores in Japan on 23 August 2006 with a later release date being planned for the Malaysian market. The 12 song set is a rollercoaster ride of crunching guitars, pounding rhythms and funked out hip hop beats and rhymes."This is essentially a guitar driven album that’s made for the mosh pit. Simply put, it rocks harder!” says skinman Rudy about the new material.Malaysian fans can expect something different as Guitarist/Producer JD hinted, “We had to think strategically this time around and only release tracks that cater for a specific market so the Japanese/Asian and Malaysian editions will be different.” The Japanese edition of the album will be released throughout Asia as an import edition so fans will still be able to obtain both copies. To top off a great 2006, Pop Shuvit walked away with the “Best Live Act” at the Annual Malaysian English Top Ten Aawards 2006.Being independent, the boys understand that there is a need to diversify and take the band to the next level as frontman Moots! Pointed out, “That’s the essence of Pop Shuvit, we always do things differently and love taking risks. We want to turn Pop Shuvit into a brand name and to do this we need to branch out and spread our wings be it in music or other facets of urban culture.”

True to their word, the boys have done just that by setting up Shuvit Management and Studio 21:05 to undertake the responsibilities of band management, marketing, music publishing and music production. Based in Taman Tun, Kuala Lumpur, Studio 21:05 is a fully equipped professional recording studio owned by Pop Shuvit and run by guitarist JD who is a qualified professional audio engineer. The next step for Pop Shuvit will be the world of fashion where Pop Shuvit have already sold out 3 limited edition T-shirt designs under its “Unknown Clothing” merchandising line and are in the midst of taking its clothing line to retails stores throughout Malaysia, a testament that the band is evolving and building itself into a successful business.

Hello, is this The Band?

MembersDiana Ludin - Vocalist
Shahfeeq Jibin - Drummer
Hafizi Fahmy - Guitarist
Shazmir - Guitarist
Hidhir Ibrahim - Bassist

Hello, is this the band? (HITTB) band was formed in Alor Star, Kedah, in late 2007. Band members today are Diana (Vocals),Fahmy (guitar), Shahfeeq (Drums), Hidhir (bass), Shazmir (lead guitar). The band original members are Fahmy, Shahfeeq and Shazmir. The first song the band put together was now known as "Letting You Go". They recorded tw o songs without vocals in January 2008 at Subhuman Production Studio in ALor Star (now moved to Bukit Antarabangsa KL), and later set up the band's Myspace account and uploaded both songs. The band wanted to find another bandmate. The band wanted a female singer for them. So the search started.

After the two songs were uploaded to Myspace and the band started to add people and advertise about their search, the band received good responses and few people were auditioned. Hidhir later joined the band and took Shazmir's position as bassist. Shazmir then moved to lead guitar. Later the band found their singer who currently studying in her 1st year at Multimedia University, where all the band members are currently studying too. Diana or well known as Dy decided to tryout and later joined HITTB and the band was complete.

The band's name was taken from their advertisement tagline in Myspace to search for a singer. "call now, and say - hello, is this the band?". In May 2008 the band recorded another two songs, one of it was "It's Not Rocket Science, It's About Us". In December 2008, HITTB recorded their first song with Dy, with their lecturer Mr Norman. Then the band recorded another two songs with her, "It's Not Rocket Science, It's About Us" and "Secret Admirer" in early January 2009.

After the band released the songs, they received overwhelming invites to play at gigs and shows all over Malaysia. Thanks to organizers like Bodysurf Records, Gegey Music, Sovereign Records and many more, the band now has a growing fanbase all over Malaysia. In August 2009, the band signed a record deal with Malaysia's indie label from East Coast, Gegey Music and they started recording their upcoming album at JD (Pop Shuvit) 21:05 studio in TTDI in October and expected to be released by Gegey Music in February 2010.
HITTB's music can be generally regarded as Pop Punk, Emo, and Rock. The band influences ranging from Paramore, Anberlin, We The Kings and many more.

Daarchlea is 6-piece metal band originated from Kuala Lumpur. Formed in 2007, they're still trying to develop something new in their music, darker and faster better than before.

Daarchlea is a Metal band originated from the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Young, brutally intense, unrelenting and outright savage are just a few ways the local metal community will describe the new offering of Daarchlea and their music. Full with dark and horror atmosphere in their songs, they are still trying to improvise their knowledge and gain more inspirations towards metal music, growing bigger day by days, in order to create the another side of dark metal music. Blending the element of Black Metal and Death Metal, they are deeply influenced by bands such as Behemoth, Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Krisiun, Deicide etc. While most bands struggle to evolve and stay vital within the extreme music genre, Daarchlea manages to do so effortlessly.

Massacre Conspiracy

MembersAsh - Screams
Emy - Drum
Sonny - Guitar/Vocal
Godoy - Guitar
One jet - Bass
Ax - Keys/Synth
With members that are still nearly 20 by the year of 2008, it would be easy to dismiss Massacre Conspiracy as a novelty act. Massacre Conspiracy is a metalcore band, consisting of current solid line-up; Ash (mid metalcore screams), Sonny (guitar/vocal), Godoy (guitar), One Jet (bass), Emy (drums) and Ax (keys/synths/effects). Also known as MC16, they are mostly known for their upbeat music and interesting live performance.

Early months after the formation of the band, MC16 has self produced their ever first single “Start Looking towards the Sky” and they took every chance to promote their single by hitting all the stages on every show they get around Kuala Lumpur. Through all those shows they have performed, they surprisingly gained many attentions from crowds and other underground acts.

MC16 changes their genre to melodic metalcore soon after Ax offers himself to join the band in late 2008. Several months after that in early 2009, both of their founding members - Ali and Ashy had to call it quit due to commitment issues. In those hard times without the full line-up as a complete band, MC16 took every effort that counts to release their demo CD “The Prophecies”. MC16 has created a growing buzz for them with their exciting melodic metalcore genre, resulting in gaining massive positive reviews especially by ROTTW, not to forget some critics from other professionals.

A quick search for guitarist and bassist takes place when they are starting to get even more serious in producing even more materials. MC16 decided to took One Jet to fill in bass player. Godoy, later after that joined the band as guitarist. With their current solid line-up now, MC16 released another hit single “Bloodless”. The song was played more than 10, 000 times within several months since its release and it’s an impressive number for a fresh band like them.

Late 2009, MC16 entered ROTTW Soundstage and has been crowned as the winner of the year. They still keep on hitting the stage around Malaysia without any hesitation being ROTTW Soundstage’s champion. In late 2010, Mio has decided to quit due to commitment issues. December 2010 marks the history when they have been chosen to play Rock the World along with other mainstream artists in Malaysia, being the youngest act to perform on the stage in Rock the World’s history.

2011 was the best year so far for MC16, being selected to be opening act for big international acts such as Carnifex, Eyes Set to Kill, Suicide Silence, The Used, All Time Low, Story of the Year and more. More than that, they have been chosen to be part of Destroy Shred Destroy band line-up for 3 series. They entered Hotsound Studio’s Battle of the Bands and Planet Rox and won both of it. Being Planet Rox’s champion, MC16 has been given the chance to perform at one of the top Canada’s annual music festival Envol et Mecadam, sharing the same stage with the legendary As I Lay Dying.

It was a good exposure and that leads them towards the production of their full-length album that has yet to be titled. The date hasn’t been confirmed for now.

One Buck Short

MembersRahul - Guitar/Vocal
Mundzir "Mooks" - Lead Vocal
Imran - Drums

In 2008, One Buck Short (affectionately known as OBS) released their debut album “Halal & Loving It” to high expectations. They had a reputation that preceded them, thanks to the popularity of their 2003 EP “Where Is The Mouse?!”. The pressure was on for them to deliver the goods worthy of the hype.

Thankfully, they did not disappoint. “Halal & Loving It” produced hits like ‘Fast Times’, ‘Kelibat Korupsi’ and ‘Khayalan Masa’, to name but a few. With producer/arranger Greg Henderson at the helm, it was hailed by many as one of the best locally produced rock albums ever.

What followed post-release marked some of the busiest times for a band on the rise. OBS proved that they had the show to go with the sound when they opened for acts like Fall Out Boy (in Singapore), Panic! At the Disco, My Chemical Romance and Good Charlotte. The band was the only Malaysian act billed for the inaugural SingFest in 2007 and also performed at the first MTV Asia Awards. They also toured China, Australia, Macau and the Philippines.

Despite these high-profile achievements, the band’s proudest work was decidedly local. They produced the successful Rockaway in 2009. A celebration of homegrown (and some regional) acts, Rockaway was a runaway success – over 12,000 came for the event and over 350,000 hits were registered on the website, which featured a live stream of the show.

CH-CH-CHANGES
Things will come full circle on 8 October 2011 as One Buck Short will release their long-awaited second album to coincide with the return of Rockaway. Entitled “Kampong Glam”, their sophomore release will also be their first full Malay album, with first single ‘Carilah Duit’ leading the charge and offering listeners a taste of what to expect. The 7-track album will see a new-found maturity in their signature punk-rock sound. After all, a lot can change in 3 years and One Buck Short is no exception to this.

No doubt, the biggest change to affect the band was the departure of bassist Izal in January 2011. Though the band admits that it has been hard adjusting to the new band dynamics, Mooky (vocals), Rahul (guitar) and Imran (drums) plan to solider on as a 3-piece, with a session bassist when needed.

Furthermore, the years following their debut were ones of great personal growth for each member of the band. Drummer Imran pursued a solo project as singer-songwriter Narmi, Mooky got married (and is soon to be a father!) and Rahul’s been traveling extensively, working on shows with international acts. As a result, the band explains that the new album “touches on the issues we face as adults: the daily working grind, the pressure to succeed, the worries of whether you’ll be able to provide for your family.” Very different indeed from their debut which was written when they were all still in college! However, the band assures that “it’s still very One Buck Short.”

Their creative process has also taken on a new direction. Previously, Rahul was the band’s main songwriting force but this time around, the effort was shared between all. “We also went back to basics and worked on most of the tracks in Imran’s bedroom with [producer] Greg either playing guitar or jamming on the bass with us. So there’s a different vibe altogether that you’ll hear on the album.”

RESPECT YOUR ROOTS
Though they received international exposure with their debut, the band says that they’ll be focused mainly on Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia for “Kampong Glam”. “We’ve always been a band that’s straddled the line between being an urban act and an underground act. With this album, we wanna capture new listeners – everyone from the “kampong” to the big city – and then tour and play all the small towns and big cities across Malaysia.”

And you can bet that the first stop in this plan is Rockaway 2011 on 8 October. Get ready to get your money’s worth with One Buck Short.

Bittersweet

MembersHerri (Hazairi Abdul Hamid) - Guitar, Vocals

Emai (Fadhilul Iqmal Ishak) - Keyboards/Synths, Vocals

Fizan (Mohd Hafizan Mohamed Razali) - Lead Vocals

Moon (Ahmad Munzir Noor Azmi) - Guitar, Vocals
Bittersweet, named after the ever so popular The Verve song, were one of the first to rush out of the gates from their hometown of Ipoh – Malaysia’s spiritual indie rock haven – to standout and be embraced by both the fashion-rock intelligentsia as well as hundreds of thousands raggedy indie kids.
The regional fringe scene, the band’s peers and their mobs of fans recognise how Bittersweet have passionately and tastefully combined Malay pop yeh yeh sensibilities with Madchester and Britpop cues, absorbed from their teenage years, to become South East Asia’s “new favourite band” for hipsters in the years since they started in 2004.
Along with two or three other fellow indie rock revivalists Bittersweet would announce a Malaysian new wave of independent, ambitious bands that became popular on the strength of their Brit-inspired sound and a return to the bombastic stage presence, offstage attitude and glamorous aesthetic of their ‘60s and ‘90s idols.
On the back of 2008’s hit ‘KAMI: The Movie’ campaign, Bittersweet’s “Capital E”, off their debut album Perfect Match was one of the singles that suddenly launched “indie” as the nation’s new post-modern craze, boost the movie itself as a mainstream teen favourite and help elevate the soundtrack album as a prized collector’s item.

Before you write them off musically too, Bittersweet have chops to transcend genre – lead guitarist, main songwriter and founder Herri’s polished Telecaster jangle comes straight from the rare school of Stone Roses virtuoso John Squire and remains untouchable and admired by the band’s peers throughout the region.
Gnarly, distinctive vocals by new singer Fizan, recruited from Brit-inspired pretenders Dance to the Radio, relaunch Bittersweet as an even more fearless and charismatic combo. Co-founder Emai adds the unsung melodic blanket to the band’s bright and busy dancefloor sound while quiet young guitarist Moon completes the sound and fury of Bittersweet with a George Harrison-esque aura.

Furthermore on tape, after hundreds of gigs under their belts and only two years into their album recording career, Bittersweet remain unapologetic for the influence they have on thousands of imitators with their glitzy brand of indie glam. Just what you’d expect from a gang of proper rock & roll stars that’s here to stay...

The Times

MembersNAZA - Vocal, Guitar
AZEEZUL - Drum
ANWAR - Guitars
MONO - Bass, back up voc

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW YET, WHO ARE THE TIMES?
Well there are four of us.We started in 2004 after we moved on from OAG.The original line-up from the first album was me and my Brother Mono on bass. In 2009 we recruited Azeezul on drums who was another of my old mates from OAG. I’m Nazar on lead guitar and vocals, and we have a new guitarist recently from SINOPSIS, Anuar. We’ve all been making music since we were kids.

SO WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO MOVE AWAY FROM OAG AND FORM SOMETHING NEW?
I think it was just different music boundaries and really just different directions. I wanted to form my own band. I created The Times because I was into something different.I wanted satisfaction in my music.
WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?
I’d say The Kinks, The Small Faces, and some Seventies brits-punk. We love Stiff Little Fingers, The Buzzcocks – stuff like that, in the ‘80s it was more like The Smiths so really we’re a mix of ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s and early mid 90’s really. We really like British bands music & attitudes.

WHERE WOULD YOUR LIFE BE WITHOUT MUSIC?
I can’t breath without music. I love music. I love Punk Rock.I come from Kuching, West Malaysia. I came up through the skateboard scene with Thrashpunk and stuff and started to pick up cassettes of The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, and man I hated school, I always knew music was my life.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FANS?
The Times is a band with a natural working class attitude!! There are no boundaries between us and the fans. You must be humble and appreciate them because they’re the ones who buy the albums. To survive a long time in music you need the right mentality.

AND YOU DO APPEAR TO HAVE AN ARMY OF LOYAL FANS.DO YOU THINK ITS AN ADVANTAGE THAT YOU SING IN MALAY?
When we started in 2003 with OAG we were one of the pioneers of singing in Malay but The Times, well, when others were copying American styles, we adopted the British style and also we sung in Malay which people can relate to. Before that, maybe kids thought it was not cool to sing in your mother tongue but we’ve done it in our own language for three albums and it works well.

YOU HAVE A NEW EP OUT SOON? HOW DOES IT SOUND?
I think it’s more raw & dirty mellow stuff. Something like the early stuff by The Police, The Jam. Some of it is quite fast. Something more like The Buzzcocks singing in Malay, and some of it is a bit like Frank Sinatra singing in Razorlight.

AND FINALLY, WHERE DO YOU GUYS SEE YOURSELVES IN FIVE YEARS TIME?
I think we’ll be doing very well.In Malaysia it’s hard to achieve longevity. You can come up very fast and go very far on one single but to stay ten or fifteen years it’s very hard to maintain the momentum. The crowd always knows all our songs and sings along with us. A couple of us we’re in our early thirties now, but, I think even when I’m 50 you’re still gonna see me rocking on a stage like Mick Jagger!
